What makes our zodiac jewellry special

The star sign jewellery of "Wiesner - Die Goldschmiede" was conceived and developed by Michael Wiesner in 2004. The aim was to create jewellery for zodiac signs without the well known, kitschy, pictorial representations of the signs of the zodiac. For this reason the respective signs of the zodiac are expressed with the constellations known from astronomy, as we can see them in the sky.

Zodiac sign jewellery | A diamond for every star

For each star of a constellation there is a small diamond, which is carefully handcrafted into the precious metal of the jewellery. For better visualization, the connecting lines, also known from astronomy, are worked into the precious metal in fine chasing work. The collection of star sign jewellery from "Wiesner - Die Goldschmiede" currently includes the categories rings, pendants, necklaces and bracelets. Up to now, we have refrained from designing ear studs or ear jewellery in general, as these pieces of jewellery would be too heavy due to their size, which is necessary to depict the constellations. The wearing comfort would be very limited by this. However, there is the possibility that we will find a solution for this in the near future.

Why is constellation jewellery so popular?

People have always been fascinated and interested in the signs of the zodiac, or rather the constellations that can be seen in the night sky. Time, which plays a very important role in people's everyday life, is divided according to the course of the sun and the moon. The full moon, for example, is considered the anchor point for dating Christian holidays. Many sowing and harvesting dates were fixed along the course of the celestial bodies.

From oral legends, myths and sagas, which were written down with the development of writing, 88 constellations are known in our sky. In the area where the sun, moon and the planets run across our sky, there are 12 of the constellations, also known as signs of the zodiac. And so, about 2000 years ago, the signs of the zodiac were determined according to the course of the sun. The Sun moves through each sign of the zodiac for about a month. So what could be more obvious than after the sun, which is the giver of all life, and every morning the new day begins, to assign a zodiac sign to each person.
